Noni is a medicinal plant which provides more than 275 phytonutrients and most importantly the bioactive iridoids that are not available in common foods. Iridoids are powerful phytochemicals produced by plants as a defense against other threats. While iridoids are found in a large percentage of plants (15 plant families), they are not common in fruits. Noni is unique because it contains 12 dissimilar types of iridoids, including glycoside iridoid, non-glycoside iridoid, simple iridoid as well as complex iridoid.
Iridoids have been scientifically proven to reduce harmful free radicals, help maintain healthy HDL cholesterol at already normal levels, increase energy, promote heart health, enhance the immune system, and protect cells.
Iridoids are some times mistaken by flavonoids which are especially found in Acai, Mangosteen and Blueberries. Flavonoids like iridoids and other antioxidants, reduce harmful free radicals from damaging the cells in the body, but flavonoids in foods like blueberries are not very stable and quickly lose their strength, if the food is frozen or processed in any way. Iridoids in the noni plant don’t lose their strength after being processed.
